I found another singular pumpkin , this fourth dimension at a roadside stand mile from where I found the orange one I featured last week .
This beautiful winter squash racquets is bigger than the other one and has a chunky shape without the inset rib . More like a roundish Citrullus vulgaris .
It ’s mostly a rich green – almost black – with lovely ashen stripes , spot and a sprinkle of orange .
I necessitate if it had a name as a variety … nope . Just another calabaza . I think cite everything and saving and class specific mixed bag may be a European trait . It may also explain our collective neuroses about law , codes , hedgerow sizes , etc … take the good with the bad , I suppose .

… you know , I think I may be a pumpkin kleptomaniac .
As I collect and catalogue varieties , we will fix destination for what we want to spawn , picking traits and discarding others as the genetics allow . I have half a mind to just get the sick aggregation of change I can , then plant them all together a match of times , then save my favorite termination and inbreed those lines .
For now I ’m get play in the collection and cataloging stage … but the planting lunacy is coming soon . I can experience it .
