Banish Bermuda grass for gardens
Over the eld , I ’ve whittle away supergrass , because there are so many fun plants out there ! I ’m keen on bulb , specially for endearing compounding , like my tenacious - term Narcissus ‘ Erlicheer ’ and 3 - year - oldYucca pallida .
This leucojum ( Leucojum aestivum ) surprised me by bolt down up in my Texas sedge ( Carex texensis ) . How precious !
Overhead in back , the Mexican plum carries on the bloodless stem .

Little spring starflowers ( Ipheion uniflorum ) touch it up with lavender in a spot that was once plain quondam pasturage .
Last springtime , we tackled one area where grass never had a chance as our path to the front door from the driveway .
latterly , we make out the next step of the picture . Last year , I simply layer newspaper , compost , and mulch around the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and thought about things . Thanks to very talented helper , my little vision became real last workweek . In January , I ’d already moved someSalvia greggiis that needed a sunnier position and added some asters to correspond the window bed ( currently sheer back , so not seeable ) . In the next few week , I ’ll do some “ shopping ” in my garden to fill it out , along with a few raw nursery plants to widen the botanic adventure .

The bottom gradient : still thinking about that one . Already , Mexican feather grasses have seeded themselves . It may be a combo of them and more sedge .
Many time , I ’ve ostracise St. Augustine with the newspaper ( or composition board ) proficiency . In malefic spots where Bermuda grass usher up , that ’s been a task , though I will say that my newsprint technique process well for me in a few topographic point . An former - fashioned dandelion puller serve when a stray shows back up .
But I ’m trusted you all have see something like this ! Not in my garden , thank heavens ; I ’m very cautious about planting spiky ones if there ’s even a sniff of Bermuda around .

This week , Design My Yard garden decorator Liz KleinjoinsTom to excuse how to avoid disasterwhen replacing Bermuda lawns with gardens .
incur out how she did it in this garden makeover !
On circuit , Dani & Gary Mossturned an oak wilting disaster into full enchantment with wildlife garden , a Chicksville Gallus gallus henhouse , and English elan conservatory . When they want to bestow a touch of nontextual matter , they make it themselves . Gary weld to fit the aim and Dani catches the light with her stained glass . Here ’s a sneak peek , but I live you ’ll desire to receive them in person on this year’sAustin Funky Chicken Coop touron March 30 !

Now , with this gaga fond weather , it ’s enticing to total some thing that really require to wait a second . This is an fantabulous clip to establish almost everything – except tender territory lovers . Daphne explain why stain temperaturemakes a difference .
Firespike ( Odontonema strictum ) is one perennial that we want to found after the last halt date . But it’sDaphne ’s choice of the hebdomad , since gardeners like to design ahead !
Like the 1 at Dani and Gary ’s , and the one I have , firespike is a dramatic addition for shade garden . Mine did n’t even freeze back this twelvemonth . In abrasive winters , I thought I ’d fall behind it . I sustain my patience , and as shortly as the soil warmed again , back it came !

On comebacks , Trisha testify how to extend your broccoliand fennel past the first fully grown harvest time . Plus , she explain how to deal with the pesky insects that arrived early this year to eat our food .
Thanks for stopping by ! See you next calendar week , Linda
