Happy Friday GPODers !
We ’re ending the week on a very tranquil , peaceable note with another visit toMontreal Botanical Gardencourtesy of Cherry Ong . In lawsuit you missed it , yesterday we explored the telling penjing collection in the Springtime Courtyard(Le Cour du Printemps ) , and today we ’re exploring the aptly named Dream Lake Garden ( Le Jardin du Lac de reve ) .
This is an authenticChinese gardendesigned to resemble the individual garden of a mandarin , an Imperial court functionary , in Ming - earned run average ( 14th to 17th centuries ) southern China . The 2.5 hectare space was designed by Taiwanese architect Le Weizhong and is one of the largest authoritative gardens outside of China .

The Garden is the fruit of friendship between Montreal and Shanghai . It was built entirely in China , then break up and send by sea to Montreal . Here it was reassembled in 1990 by a squad of more than fifty crafter brought specially from China . The Dream Lake Garden opened on June 20 , 1991 .
The Garden ’s layout , the plant species and the computer architecture of the different building all reverberate age - old tradition . It is a peaceful haven for you to revel in the heart of the city , just as people would have done in China in days gone by .
Not dissimilar to thepenjingwe see yesterday , Chinese gardens were traditionally plan to mimic and evoke the larger natural world . This is why both rock candy / stones and verdure are two big features . Large rocks and boulders like the incredible structure above , are mean to stand for towering mountain peaks , while the hopeful yellow - dark-green sedum and other foliage plants that surround capture the feeling of ancient forests . To learn more about the grandness of rock in traditional Chinese garden design , check out this riveting article from The Metropolitan Museum of Art : Chinese Gardens and Collectors ’ Rocks .

While the exuberant greenery and striking rock-and-roll arrangements transport you to a fantastic timberland , the real stars of this part of the garden are the incrediblelotus(Nelumbo nucifera , Zones 4–10 ) plant .
Although you probably figure Nymphaea lotus mature out to large people in lake and ponds , they are also keen plants to grow in containers .
Sacred Lotus ( Lotus d’Orient ) – The white lotus is the most admired of all aquatic plant , with its elegant bearing , refined flowers and fat traditional heritage . For Buddhist , the lotus is a symbol of purity , for its heyday rises spic from its mucky bed . In China , it symbolizes the Confucian model of the “ higher-ranking human race ” and is also one of the noble bloom . There are two metal money of lotus : The sacred white lotus ( above),Nelumbo nucifera , also get laid as the East Amerindic Nelumbo nucifera , Oriental lotus or lily of the Nile , is native to southerly Asia and can grow at altitudes of up to 1,600 meters . And …

The American lotus , Nelumbo lutea , is native to a region stretching from southeastern North America to the northern section of South America . Smaller than the sacred lotus , it bears odoriferous , pallid yellow-bellied flowers .
Though zen garden are most often relate with Japan , several other countries in Asia have produce their own interpretations of these dry , John Rock garden . To pair the more wild , instinctive esthetic of traditional Formosan garden design , this modest zen garden is more evocative of a natural landscape than the punctilious and minimalist Nipponese style .
The Friendship Hall is awelcoming distance in the center of the garden .

The Springtime Courtyard , which house the amazing penjing specimen .
The Pavilion of Infinite Pleasantness – Little did I live that Chinese gardens combine two of my loves : plant and literature . Buildings in and around a garden are traditionally adorned with poetic couplets and names that cite lit and reflect on the proprietor ’s values and taste . At Montreal Botanic Garden the names of all of the structures and infinite have mull over a commission to boost liberalization , delectation , and happiness in the garden .
And they ’re not being hyperbolic when they name this place as “ Infinite Pleasantness , ” with joyful little details large and small to look up to and enjoy . Cherry has a dandy eye for all the details .

The Entrance Courtyard – with slew of Japanese stiltgrass ( Microstegium vimineum ) and a small Japanese maple that mimics thepenjinginside .
And one last flavour at the Entrance Courtyard before we say goodbye to this stunning garden .
Thank you so much for divvy up your visit toMontreal Botanical Gardenwith us , Cherry ! I recollect I learned just as much as I look up to these garden .
