A few months ago I acknowledge a lawn society cleaning up a bunch of brush and vines from a neighbour ’s railyard . I asked the fellow doing the work if he would mind dump their motortruck of brush at my station .
He looked at me like I was crazy . Which was fine – I ’m used to that .
I finally convinced him to deck it at my place but he would n’t dump it in the thou . belike scared I would sue him or something . So he knock down the brush in my front swale in front of the fencing .
When I went to begin pick it up to throw over the fence , I actualise that it was such a tangle of vine that it would be a serious pain to move … so I forget it to dry out and rot for a while .
Then a week or two ago , I have another shot at it , along with the “ help ” of my two - twelvemonth - former .
I started drag out vines to throw over the fencing … and then I comment this :
Wild cucumber!
It was patently a cucurbit of some sort so I stopped what I was doing in case I damp any of the tiny vine … then I go inwardly and looked it up . This is what I found , thanks to Green Deane . So is uncivilised cucumber comestible ? Yes !
I have edible groundless cucumbers !
I could n’t find any fruit , though it had a lot of footling blooms as you could see . That meant I could n’t move the brushing … since it had become a trellis for a potential solid food germ .

See ? I ’m not work-shy ! I ’m just growing food holistically . Or something .
A few days ago I found a few yield and Rachel and I tried them . A dainty piffling burst of cucumber smack in a bean - sized package . I consider I ’ll see if I can find some right fruit so I can save the seed and scatter them around my intellectual nourishment forest for next year .
