And looking forward to a new garden
Today ’s mail service comes from Jodi Holley .
After 17 years , my sign is on the market place for sale . I ’ve been spending the last few metre in my garden saying so long . I live in Sterling Heights , Michigan ( Zone 6 ) , with frigid summers and red-hot winters , so plants here demand to be lasting and adaptable . When we first moved in , all the perennials were pretty much pinkish and yellow . That had to change , and tight , because there is so much more to enjoy !
Early outflow . The gardening class starts out with a riot of color provided by variousbulbsin the front yard : tulip , daffodils , hyacinth , and grape hyacinth(Muscariarmeniacum , Zones 4–8 ) .

In midspring , as the bulbs are fading , creeping phlox(Phlox subulata , Zones 3–9 ) and forget - me - nots(Myosotissylvatica , Zones 3–8 ) number into bloom .
Fragrant lilacs(Syringavulgaris , zone 3–7 ) blossom over gold alyssum(Aurinia saxatilis , Zones 4–7 ) .
More gold alyssum , withcolumbines(Aquilegiahybrids , Zones 3–8 ) .

Bearded iris ( zone 3–8 ) post on the midspring show .
In late spring and early summertime , the roses startle blossom , and my pride and pleasure — mysecret garden — is in its prime !
Another horizon of the secret garden in early summer . The location of my secret garden ( tuck behind the detached garage ) was no more than weeds and sand when we first moved in . The previous owners used the space to put up a bolt down - up swim pool , then a picnic mesa . I landscaped the areas that were hard to get to with a lawnmower and then put in beds . I put in apine treethat was no more than a twig when we moved in in 2003 . Today it is over 20 feet improbable , with shade perennial growing gayly around it .

In summer liatris(Liatrisspicata , Zones 3–9 ) and coneflowers(Echinaceaspecies and hybrids , Zones 3–9 ) are blossom in intimately every bloom layer .
More of summertime , with dark - eyed Susans(Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 3–9),coneflowers , and nasturtiums(Tropaeolummajus , annual ) .
In descent the mums(Chrysanthemum× morifolium , Zones 5–9 ) , which also grow in well-nigh every bed , put on their annual show .

It ’s been my joyfulness to remake the subsist garden in my range , but an even slap-up one to plant where there was nothing . It ’s arduous to say goodbye , but I ’m looking forward to the unexampled garden I ’ll plant from nothing .
