Do n’t Panic ! These soothing words adorn the cover of The Hitchhiker ’s Guide to the Galaxy , and are also an boost to Captain Mainwaring . Of the two , I am more conduct Corporal Jones , as I realised just now that I still have n’t ordered my bulbs for next year . What ! I normally have that done in early July . Will they still have what I require ? Gaaagh . OK , breathe …

Time for Six on Saturday . Six matter , on a Saturday . Could be anything , you decide . Join in !

Here are my Six for this calendar week .

1 – Geranium ‘ Crystal Lake ’ . A piece of a sprawler this one , but the flower are rather pretty and it tolerates partial shade . This one is planted in the front of the shady border and seems to be doing OK .

2 – Rudbeckia fulgida ‘ Goldsturm ’ . Brightening up a couple of my mete , I now have two quite declamatory clumps of this . I think I will divide them in the fountain , give them a bit more room . I generally do n’t like sensationalistic flowers , or at least sure specter of yellow , but goldsturm here is an exception for some reason .

3 – Poppy germ heads . The poppy are long die but the decorative seed heads remain . They are chock full of seed , each one in all likelihood enough for a garden full of poppy next year . I will splash the seeds munificently and pull up any that are redundant to requirements .

4 – Begonia ‘ Glowing Embers ’ . I had three of these last twelvemonth and attempted to overwinter them . One was in a raft on the greenhouse flooring , it died . Boo hoo . Two were in pots on a high ledge in the greenhouse , they both survived and are now bloom profusely . ensue . This wintertime I might do it properly , removing the tubers and hive away them “ properly ” . Or I might not … .

5 – Berberis thunbergii ‘ Golden Rocket ’ . I ’ve had this for a few years now and it is tardily growing into a worthwhile border plant , agree its own more with the thugs . I buy it for the foliage .

6 – Gladioli , pinkish one . The glads have been recent to get going this year , or at least subsequently than last year .
