Ferns turn a narrow space into a garden
Today we ’re back in Cherry Ong ’s mythologic garden in British Columbia .
The side garden developed this year is entirely a tint garden featuringferns . We had so many names for it , since it was a tenacious minute strip . We reconcile ( for now ) on calling it the Fern Fairway . The area is hard to snap given its width .
To start the garden , I used some perennials that I was already growing in containers . I vary the height of the container to produce more perpendicular interest peculiarly at center level , though I proceed the diameter of the smoke 14 in or less so as not to block the walkway access .

The containers are varied . Some are finds from Craigslist , like the metal lattice weave urn ; the others are shaping , ceramic , or galvanise iron . I did luck out by finding some corten brand planters made by very talented local designer Todd Holloway . For the most part , I render to utilise what I had . I add together some garden glass , alloy buoy , souvenirs , and found object from various places to total involvement to the corridor . Of of course , I could n’t refuse tally annuals because of the color and additional luxuriance that they bring .
Plumose soft shieldfern(Polystichumsetiferum‘Plumosomultilobum ’ , Zones 6–8 )

The Fern Fairway is full of diversefoliagecolors .
