Anticipating another year of butterflies and more

While patiently waiting for the warm days of summertime . . . here are a few pictures I took around my habitation in Victoriaville , Quebec , last summer .

A painted lady butterfly stroke fueling up on nectar . Painted lady are native to every continent except Australia and Antarctica . The caterpillars feed on a all-encompassing reach of flora , peculiarly favoring thistle and althea . Though found all over North America , they only overwinter in Mexico , then re - migrate Second Earl of Guilford each year , just like their more famous cousins , the monarch . Despite their small size , they can locomote up to 100 Admiralty mile a day while migrating !

Another paint lady butterfly stroke , this time with its wings close , showing off the intricate pattern on the underside of the wings .

A group of painted ladies has a snack on a sedum . Painted ladies are have intercourse to migrate to young locations in groups in an unpredictable way , so sometimes you ’ll get lucky and a whole swarm of these beauty will show up in your garden ! verify you have lot of nectar for them to give on , and they might just stick around .

This trivial beauty is a pink - edged atomic number 16 . The caterpillars feed on the leaves of blueberries , so if you grow blueberries , you may savour this beautiful butterfly stroke as well as the luscious fruit !
